Bio: 

Ms. Pollard has been the School Counselor at Binford Middle School since 2012. She began her career in education in 2004 as a Science Teacher at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School. Ms. Pollard attended Overby Sheppard Elementary School, Binford Middle School, and Thomas Jefferson High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Saint Paul’s College and a Master of Education in School Counseling from Virginia State University. 

In her free time, Ms. Pollard enjoys watching movies, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. Ms. Pollard is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated where she is committed to public service. 
 

Philosophy

The counselor believes:

  • Every student can learn, grow and achieve.

  • All students are entitled to the services of a professional school counselor. 

  • Effective school counseling is a collaborative process that involves school counselors, students, parents, teachers, administrators, community leaders and other stakeholders alike

Goals (3 Domains)

Academic: To identify factors that impact learning and determine a course of action to provide appropriate support.
Career: To provide students with the opportunity to assess personal interests and aptitudes in relation to career interest.
Personal/Social: To assist students to develop appropriate problem-solving and decision making skills to resolve conflicts and to accept responsibility for their choices.

*Parents may choose to opt their child out of services by completing the Google Form above. Small group counseling or ongoing, structured counseling requires parental permission. Parental permission is not required for short duration personal/social counseling.
